Lesson 3 of 11
Payments & Platform Rules
Payments
One of the requirements of being a Profoundly Certified Pro is agreeing to the Terms of Service, which include:
- Every invoice for the lifetime of a relationship with a client met on Profoundly must be delivered via your Profoundly Stripe account
- You receive 80% of all client payments. Profoundly retains a 20% platform fee.
Connecting Stripe
All projects on Profoundly are billed and paid through Stripe. You'll connect your Stripe account when you set up your profile in the next module.
Setup is easy:
- Go to your profile → "Connect Stripe"
- Follow the prompts to enter your business details and bank account
- Once connected, you can submit proposals and start earning
Why Stripe?
- Secure, industry-standard payment processing
- Direct deposit to your bank account
- Handles all payment compliance and security
- Built-in invoicing tools
How Invoicing Works
Here's what you need to know about invoicing on the platform:
Default terms:
- All invoices automatically default to Net 3 payment terms (due in 3 days)
- You and the client can agree to alternate terms if needed (Net 15, Net 30, milestone-based, etc.)
- You're responsible for following up if due dates pass
Your responsibility: Getting paid is ultimately your responsibility. Clients respond best to direct, professional communication from you.
How to send an invoice:
- Create the invoice through your Profoundly dashboard
- Include clear details about work completed
- Specify the amount and due date
- Send it to the client through the platform
If payment is delayed:
- Send a friendly reminder on the due date
- Follow up professionally if payment is late
- Contact support if you need assistance with a payment issue
Critical Platform Rules & Terms of Service
Taking projects off-platform is a violation of the Terms of Service and is not in anyone's best interest. Here's why this rule exists:
It protects you:
- Platform dispute resolution if issues arise
- Payment security through Stripe
- Professional infrastructure and support
It protects the client:
- Secure payment processing
- Recourse if deliverables aren't met
- Professional standards and accountability
It sustains the platform:
- Enables us to continue providing qualified leads
- Maintains the infrastructure that connects you with clients
- Supports ongoing platform improvements
The requirement to invoice through Profoundly includes:
- Everything related to clients you met through Profoundly
- The initial project
- Any follow-up work or additional phases
- Ongoing retainers or monthly work
- Quick consulting hours
We strongly encourage you to read and review the Terms of Service carefully. If you have any questions about what is or isn't allowed, submit a ticket through the app footer and we'll clarify.
Service Agreements Between You and Your Clients
While Profoundly provides the marketplace infrastructure and handles the payment processing, you are entering into a direct professional relationship with your clients. A service agreement typically covers:
- Scope of work and deliverables
- Timeline and milestones
- Revision policies
- Intellectual property rights
- Confidentiality terms
- Liability and warranty provisions
- Termination conditions
This protects both you and your client by ensuring everyone understands the terms of your working relationship. Many Pros use standard contract templates they customize for each project. If you have questions about service agreements, consult with a legal professional who can advise on your specific situation.
